Popular science books for teenagers play an important role in promoting the personal growth of young people, improving their scientific literacy, and promoting social development.Given China's absolute needs to improve students' scientific literacy and to share humanistic achievements, the demand for translating and introducing foreign science books to young people has long existed. Therefore,a large number of books are introduced with considerable social impact. However, the study on popular science books for teenagers has long been relatively rare. The reasons lie first in the insufficient attention from the translation community toward translation of popular science books, leading to the underdevelopment of its translation theory.Secondly, the popular science books for teenagers,as a sub-branch toward a targeted group, consequently receive even less attention. In view of this situation, this article takes the translation practice of the book Tout est relatif, comme dit Einstein as a study piece for exploring the translation principles and specific methods for translating popular science books.Guided by the three types of texts defined by Newmark and the two translation principles that he proposed(semantic translation and communicative translation),the author looks into the translation practice of Tout est relatif, comme dit Einstein, with the aim of summarizing specific translation methods through case analysis. In this light, the report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is a brief introduction to the project, with description on the publishing house and the author of the book,as well as its textual content. The second chapter discusses the pre-translation preparation and translation process. The author introduces Newmark's translation theory, analyzes the features of popular science readings for teenagers, elaborates on the difficulties of translation and finally summarizes corresponding translation methods. This chapter is followed by a case analysis, which presents specific translation cases to illustrate corresponding translation methods. The last chapter is the summary in which the author reviews the good practices and deficiencies in the translation and gives suggestions for further study.Through the summary of the translation practice and theoretical review, the author hopes to provide some reference for the translation of popular science books for teenagers.
