A Practice Report On Simulated C-E Consecutive Interpreting Of An Educational Internationalization Lecture

With the influence of globalization,students flow is flashing among countries,and students from different countries may study in one specific country.The fact that education internationalization is on the trend is the reason for the author to select the lecture entitled Education Internationalization,originally given by Professor Wu Yingcheng,as the material for her simulated interpreting practice.This interpretation report elaborates on the interpreting problems and strategies during the interpretation.The interpreter has no difficulty in understanding the speaker,thus she could fully concentrate on the content of the speech.Then the difficulties she met were all about the speaker's repetition,over-expression of the speaker's similar ideas and her unclear logic in the speech.To deal with these different types of redundancies in expression,the interpreter took the measures such as: eliminating the same notes when she decodes her notes;optimizing the similar sentence patterns to express the ideas in various ways and improving connections between sentences by adding more conjunctions and explanations.The problems exist in the process of note-taking and the decoding of the notes not the listening or the understanding part.For the interpretation itself,it is more like a decoding problem.The interpreter was able to record every sentence the speaker said.However,it was not the best way to interpret the notes word by word,the interpreter needed to process when decoding the notes.For the redundancies,she eliminated the unnecessary repetition parts such as the fill-in-blank words and the over-expressions of the same idea;and for the unclear logic of the speech,she expressed them in the way that the audience could understand the best.By interpreting and reflecting of the speech,the author has a deeper understanding of interpreting.The author hopes that her report will provide other interpreters with some help.
