This thesis is aimed at exploring the difficulties that the student interpreters encounter in English-Chinese interpretation and analyzing their reasons, and at proposing the strategies to deal with the difficulties.Firstly,a brief introduction is made,on the theories of consecutive interpretation and note-taking,the important role that note-taking plays in consecutive interpretation,as well as Gile's Effort Model, which provides the theoretical framework to analyze the note-decoding difficulties and their reasons of the student interpreters.Secondly, the notes of a certain interpretation made by 15 random-sampling second-graders of MTI majoring in English interpretation are seclected as the samples,in the purpose of analyzing the note-decoding difficulties in consecutive interpretation and their reasons,in the way of interviewing the volunteers about their satisfaction rate of their own notes and how much their notes can help them in consecutive interpretation. Then a comparison is made, between the notes of student interpreters and the ones of the professional interpreters on the same listening material,to find out the note-decoding difficulties which mainly present lack of key information, lack of conncetion, and difficulties in reading notes.Finally,5 strategies are proposed to improve the note-taking and note-decoding of the students.
