This reflective research report is based on the E-C translation of a biography,The Life of Abraham Lincoln(excerpts).Lincoln is a legendary figure in the minds of people all over the world.During the 1861-1865 of the American Civil War,Lincoln led the union to suppress the armed rebellion of the reactionary slave owners in the South and issued a declaration of the liberation of black slaves and then American capitalism gained rapid development.Biography of Lincoln is not only a biography of great man,but also a textbook of life, which contains the essences of Lincoln's life.On our own way of life,we should set up a stone tablet engraved with Lincoln's shining spirits. The source text enjoys typical language features of English, such as the use of long sentences, nominalization expression and proper nouns.Meanwhile, there are great differences in reading habits, expressions and thinking modes between English and Chinese, which requires the author to pay great attention and thorough consideration. Therefore, the author encounters many challenges in the process of translation. The thesis aims to discuss valid methods to translate biography text where there are some ambiguous or illogical contents when translating the source text into explicit texts in target language,on account of this 10,000 words E-C translation practice. The author analyses the text features of biography, and then apply division and inversion, amplification and omission, transliteration and free translation to solve the problems mentioned above.
