A Study On The Description Of Fruit And Vegetables In Poetries Of The Northern Song Dynasty

As an artistic record of human social life,thoughts and feelings,the poetry has been concerned with the fruit and vegetables that are closely related to people's lives from the beginning.Since the Northern Song Dynasty,the secularization of society has made the literators pay more attention to the daily diet when writing poetry.The fruit and vegetables gradually get rid of the practical nature and leap into the aesthetic arena to obtain the poetic ascension.This paper intends to intuitively display introduction of fruit and vegetables into poetries of the Northern Song Dynasty by the method of categorical statistics.Then,on the basis of reading the poetry carefully,the author makes analysis from perspective of emotional implication,artistic characteristics,cultural connotation,etc.,with a hope to truly reflect fruit and vegetables description in poetries of the Northern Song Dynasty.The full text is divided into four chapters.The first chapter utilizes the table to count in the fruit and vegetables present in Northern Song Dynastya'poetries with a classified manner,and exhibits the connecting link key of fruit and vegetables description in poetries of the Northern Song Dynasty,after making comparison with the poems of the Northern Song Dynasty and the poems of the Southern Song Dynasty.Based on the statistical results,this chapter focuses on analyzing description of oranges and bamboo shoots,which are the most frequently present in the poems of the Northern Song Dynasty.In addition,it briefly analyzes the "temperament of vegetable and bamboo shoot" in Song Dynasty's literary theory.Chapter 2 analyzes the emotional implication manifested by fruit and vegetables description in poetries of the Northern Song Dynasty.It is firstly a love to the delicious food.The literati in Song Dynasty are concerned about their own spiritual cultivation,and place their pursuit for the gracious living in description of fruit and vegetables.The seasonal characteristic of the fruit and vegetables caused the poet's sigh towards the time and extended to the poet's deep sigh to old face,changing things,parting and wandering.As the landscape and things are easy to evoke missing,fruit and vegetables often evoke the poet's homesickness and their innermost idea to live in seclusion.The literati in Northern Song Dynasty is a generation with high sense of social responsibility and of historical mission,and fruit and vegetables sometimes raise their concerns about national politics and people's life hardship.The third chapter analyzes artistic characteristics of the fruit and vegetables description in poetries of the Northern Song Dynasty,which are embodied in comprehensive description of the color,smell,shape,taste,novel sentence making,expertise in use of allusions,suite poetry and responsory poemtry.Novel sentence making includes strange imagination of metaphor and anthropomorphic sentence and use of a large number of verbs to enlighten the poetry.The poetry which utilizes the form of singing and poems exchanging contains a sense of banter.The fourth chapter analyzes diet culture of fruit and vegetables description in poetries of the Northern Song Dynasty.In the poetries of the Northern Song Dynasty,the fruit and vegetables description is a mirror of the daily diet of the Song Dynasty,providing a poetic reference for us to understand the eating habits of the Northern Song Dynasty.Through the poetry,we can see the following four aspects:the emergence of new dishes where a meat dish is made with vegetables,the diet habit where the drug seedlings are used as vegetables,the festivals and traditions of having wild vegetable,prosperity and development of non-staple food of fruit and vegetables.Fruit and vegetables description in poetries of the Northern Song Dynasty expands the themes of the poetry,improves the aesthetic value of fruit and vegetables and has a profound impact on fruit and vegetables creations in the later ages.At the same time,fruit and vegetables description also has a negative effect on social food culture.
