A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of The Sci-tech Report Regulatory Review Of Offshore Wind In Five European Countries (Chapter 5)

With the rapid development of science and technology and the increase of exchange in science and technology among countries,the sci-tech English has become an important carrier of scientific and technological exchanges around the world.How to translate the sci-tech reports and convey accurate technical content is a major challenge for the translator.In order to analyze and summarize the translation methods of English for science and technology,the translator selects a sci-tech report on the development of new energy as the material of translation practice.The source text of this translation report is the fifth chapter of Regulatory Review of Offshore Wind in Five European Countries,which is co-authored by AR Henderson,JK Phillips and other two authors.This report introduces the development of offshore wind in five European countries,explains the developing momentum,obstacles and lessons of the offshore wind power in five European countries,and points out the main reason that makes the development of offshore wind lags behind people's expectation.This translation report includes four chapters.The first chapter describes the background,characteristics of the project and related literature review.The second chapter mainly describes the completion of pre-translation preparation,process of translation and after-translation.The third chapter is the translation case analysis which includes the application of several translation methods such as literal translation,free translation,inversion to the translation of terms and abbreviations,the translation of long sentences and the translation of passive sentences.The fourth chapter is the conclusion of this translation practice which includes the experience gained from the practice and limitations as well as suggestions for future translation research.Through the translation practice,the translator reflects the errors and accumulates the experience of translating the sci-tech report,hoping that these lessons can provide reference for translators of science and technology English.
