A Report On Translation Of Patent Documents Based On Skopos Theory

In current society,competition among countries and enterprises have become increasingly dependent on the competition of the level and strength of science and technology,a country or enterprise with more and higher quality of patented technologies and other intellectual properties,means it has a stronger competitiveness.As the Chinese enterprises becoming more international,the number of individuals and enterprises applying for international patents in China has continued to increase,and the opportunities and challenges are also increasing.Hence,the significance of patent translation has become increasingly prominent.However,due to the characteristics of patent texts,the patent translation is difficult,so all the translators should study hard to find out how to translate the patents well.This translation practice report mainly consists of four parts: the first part introduces the background,characteristics and requirements of this translation project.The second part,as the description of the translation process,outlines the translation preparation,translation process and revision.The third part analyzes the translation cases,illustrates the problems in translation,and researches the translation methods under the guidance of Skopos Theory.The fourth part makes a conclusion of the translation practice,including the practical significance and the translator's inspiration.This paper aims to study how to translate patent translation accurately in accordance with the basic standards under the guidance of Skopos Theory,through adjusting the translation strategies and methods in the translation process,according to the specific translation purposes and readers and other factors.Based on Skopos Theory,translators could further understand the features,requirements and significance of patent translation.And via personal translating practice,experience and reflection,my understanding of patent translation is deepened and my translating skills and ability improved.Meanwhile,it is expected that the experience and lessons learned from this translation practice can be a reference to other translators.
