The Study Of Relationship Among The Dark Triad,Interpersonal Relationship And Aggressive Behaviors

Objectives:To examine the effect of the Dark triad on interpersonal relationships,and the mediating roles of interpersonal relationships between the Dark Triad and the forgiveness.To examine the predictive effect of Dark triad and Big Five personality on aggressive behaviors,and to test the moderating roles of Dark Triad between forgiveness and aggressive behaviors.Methods:The Dirty Dozen(DD),the brief version of Chinese Big Five Personality Inventory(CBF-PI-B),Interpersonal Relationship satisfaction Questionnaire and the peer rating scale,Transgression-Related Interpersonal Motivations Scale-12-Item Form(TRIM-12),and Chinese version of Buss & Perry aggression questionnaire(AQ-CV)are administered to a sample of university students(n=700),and the effective observed data is collected.Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS21.0,Amos17.0 and Mplus6.12.The effective data was analyzed by independent sample T-test,pearson correlation,hierarchical regression,structural equation model and moderating effect test,and the results are got.Results:(1)The scores of males on Machiavellianism and psychopathy are significantly higher than females(p<0.01),and there is no significant gender differences on narcissism(p>0.05).The male's scores on nervousness,agreeableness of Big Five Personalityare significantly lower than female's(p<0.01),and there is no significant gender differences on conscientiousness,openness and extroversion(p>0.05).The male's scores on interpersonal relationship satisfactionand peer relationship aresignificantly lower than female's(p<0.01);On the factors of forgiveness and aggression,the male's scores on revenge,physical aggression and verbal aggression are significantly higher than female's(p<0.01),and there are no significantdifferenceson avoidance,anger,hostility and self-directed aggression in gender(p>0.05).(2)The scores of the high Dark Triad participants on interpersonal support,capable and extroversion,similarity and compatibility,morality,andpeer relationship are all significantly lower than those of low Dark Triad participants(p<0.05),and the scores on revenge,avoidance,communication obstacle and the conflict are significantly higher than those of low Dark Triad participants(p<0.01).(3)Thecorrelation betweenpsychopathy and narcissism is no significant(p>0.05),but the Dark triad are significantly related with each personality positively(p<0.01);The correlation between Machiavellianism and psychopathy is similar,they are both significantly positively correlated with nervousness,interpersonal dissatisfaction,and are significantly negatively correlatedwithconscientiousness,agreeableness,openness,extroversion,interpersonal satisfaction and peer relationship(p<0.05).Narcissism is significantly positively correlatedwithnervousness,conscientiousness,agreeableness,openness,extroversion,revenge,avoidance and interpersonal satisfaction(p<0.01),and is weakly positively correlated with interpersonal dissatisfaction(p<0.01).Machiavellianism,psychopathy and narcissism are all significantly positively correlated with physical aggression,verbalaggression,anger,hostility,self-directedaggression(p<0.01);Interpersonal satisfaction is significantly positively correlated with peer relationship(p<0.01),and isnegatively correlatedwithinterpersonal dissatisfaction(p<0.01).(4)Relationship between Machiavellianism and revenge is partially mediated by interpersonal satisfaction,relationship between psychopathy and revenge is fully mediated by interpersonal satisfaction,relationship between narcissism and revenge was partially mediated by interpersonal satisfaction.(5)In the hierarchical regression analysis of the aggressive behaviors,the total predictive effect of the big five personality on aggressive behaviorsis 38.5%,in which the neuroticism,openness and extroversion canpositively predict the aggressive behaviors,while the agreeableness can negatively predict the aggressive behaviors.The total predictive effect of the Dark triad on aggressive behaviors is 49.8%,in which both the Machiavellianism and psychopathy can positively predict aggressive behaviors,the Dark triad have incremental validity for predicting the aggressive behaviors.(6)The Dark triad have moderating effect between forgiveness and aggressive behaviors: Machiavellianism plays a negative moderating role between avoidance and physical aggression,verbal aggression.Psychopathy plays a positive role between revenge and self-directed aggression,and plays a positive role between avoidance and hostility.Narcissism plays a negative moderating role between avoidance and verbal aggression,anger.Conclusions:(1)there is no gender difference on narcissism,but the male's Machiavellianism and psychopathy level is higher than female's;The male's interpersonal relationship satisfaction and peer relationship are lower than female's,while the male's interpersonal dissatisfaction is higher than female's;Compared with the female,the male's level of forgiveness is lower when faced with the violation,and they are more prone to act aggressively.(2)Individuals with high levels of Dark triad have lower levels of forgiveness,peer relationship,while have higher interpersonal dissatisfaction and aggressive behavior.(3)Improving the interpersonal relationship satisfaction of the Dark triad individuals can inhibit the revenge motivation,while improving the interpersonal relationship dissatisfaction of the Machiavellianism and psychopathyindividuals can facilitate the avoidance motivation;Machiavellianism and narcissism can directly predict the level of forgiveness,that is,high Machiavellians or narcissists tend to not forgive others regardless of their interpersonal relationships.(4)The Dark triad can predict aggressive behaviors,and the Dark triad have incremental validity for predicting the aggressive behavior.(5)The interaction between the Dark triad and forgiveness level can affect the aggressive behavior when faced with the violation.
