With the rapid development of society and economy,people ’ s spiritual needs have been attached a greater importance to.People are desperate to acquire both mental and physical development through sports.Tennis now is one of the most popular sports in the world.Ever since Li Na won the 2011 championship in French Open,Chinese people’s passion for tennis flamed out completely.The increasing demand for a better translation of English tennis news begins to emerge.The tennis news,as a special type of text,requires us to pay more attention to its translation involving many sporting terms.However,what is worth mentioning is that although there are already some researches on the translation of tennis news,those researches are far from being in-depth.Translation of tennis news still remains to be a new research domain.Hence it is a question worth pondering for translators to perfect the translation by adopting translation theories concerned.This paper is a report based on the E-C translation of the tennis news on ESPN from March to June in 2016.Under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the author elaborates on the translation of tennis news by means of English dictionaries and parallel texts.First of all,the author studies the characteristics of tennis news,including analyzing the features of its audiences.Then the author highlights the great importance of revision by comparing the revised text and unrevised ones.Finally,under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the author investigates on the characteristics anddifficulties of the translation of tennis news on the lexical,syntactic and stylistic level.The author hopes to offer help for other translators dealing with the same type of translation.
