The source text is a social survey report, named End Game:Tipping Point for Planet Earth, wrote by Anthony D.Barnosky and Elizabeth A.Hadly.The book analyzes current global crisis in vivid and objective language. There are many long sentences in the text, showing the rigorous logic and professional attitude.Long English sentences have complex structures and rich information, which always poses challenges to translators. Therefore, translating long sentences from English into Chinese is the focus of this thesis.Long English sentences, featured by complex structures,post-modifications and conjunctions, can be divided into three categories:sentences with parallel elements, with parenthesis elements and with interlocking modifications. Many translation theorists proposed strategies for translating long English sentences.According to the review of the strategies, this thesis mainly applies three of them:"follow the original order","change the original order" and "split the sentences" to the case study. In the study of strategies, the thesis introduces contrasts between English and Chinese sentences, features and categories of long English sentences and ways of analyzing them, which may contribute to further studies on translating long English sentences.
