It is of difficulty and challenge for translators to understand and translate English long sentences with complex structures.English-Chinese translation of long sentences requires that translators should appropriately understand the original text, utilize the proper translation strategies, and translate in a faithful, smooth and coherent way. This report is based on the translation practice of the long sentences in Gain the Edge, authored by the famous negotiator,Martin.E.Latz.By illustrating vivid examples, the book introduces comprehensive and systematic strategies and tactics to use when facing a variety of negotiation contexts.Based on the typical examples selected from the translation practice, this report deeply explores the translation strategies of English long sentences. The long sentences selected from this book contribute to exploring the English-Chinese translation strategies of long sentences. This report analyzes and summarizes such translation strategies as linear translation, division, inversion, and recasting.Chapter Four concludes this report by reflecting on the importance of understanding and expression in the process of English-Chinese translation of long sentences, and reveals some implications for future studies on translation. It is hoped that this translation report on the English-Chinese translation strategies of English long sentences can shed light on the translation study and practice of English long sentences and provide theoretical guidance for business negotiation as well.
