Energy is vital for the economic development and social stability of a nation. With the development of economy, energy consumption keeps increasing which results in serious environmental problems and energy crisis.Ever since the energy crisis in 1970s,unconventional energy has attracted the attention of the world for it is clean and environment friendly.Current researches concentrate on the prospect, economic value and relevant technologies of unconventional energy. It is not helpful for the popularization of the basic knowledge and technologies of unconventional energy among the public. Therefore,it is of theoretical meaning as well as practical meaning to pay attention to unconventional energy. The translator chose Chapter Three as the translation material. This paper is a translation report. The source text is Chapter Three from the book Waste Energy for Life Cycle Assessment. With eight sections,Chapter Three has 18,215 words except the figures and tables. The content of the source text focus on the source, application and prospect of unconventional energy.Language in the source text is formal, objective and accurate. There are many terminologies and complex long sentences in the text. The content of the source text covers a wide range, including physics, chemistry, biology, construction, mechanic and aerospace. To translate the source text, the translator selected Skopos Theory from German functionalism to guide the translation.Instructed by Skopos rule, coherence rule and loyalty rule, the translator employed several translation methods as conversion, amplification, omission, splitting and reconstructing to complete the translation.Through the translation practice, the translator attempted to improve her translation skills and to have a more profound comprehension of translation theories. In addition, the translation would like to broaden her horizon by acquiring more knowledge about unconventional energy.Meanwhile,it is expected that the target text can not only offer more domestic materials for scholars and researchers in energy studies, but also attract more people to know more about unconventional energy and pay attention to its development. This report is divided into five chapters.Chapter One is about the background information of the translation project, introduction of the Skopos Theory and the significance and purpose of the practice.Chapter Two offers an introduction of the source text.Chapter Three described the translation process.Chapter Four is about the difficulties and translation methods. In this part, the translator analyzed the difficulties encountered and listed translation methods with case analysis. And a conclusion is made in Chapter Five, including experience and lessons, something to be explored and implication for future study and life.
