As the rapid development of information technology and acceleration of globalization,knowledge dissemination and communication between countries are strengthened increasingly,which brings great development opportunities for translation.An ocean of social and scientific books are introduced,including The Teaching Profession: Present and Future,with the aims at absorbing the foreign advanced culture and promoting the development of China's society.The source text is an excerpt from the fifth chapter “Teaching as a Profession” of this book.The author of this text illustrates how to improve the quality of the teaching profession in selection,education,working conditions,career perspectives,evaluation,teacher image and school management,and describes his expectation of the profession's future.From the perspective of contrastive study on English and Chinese language and with the guidance of their respectively different features,the translator employs the appropriate translation strategies.The translator's thinking process and the applications of various kinds of translation skills are described in detail through the case analysis on the difficulty in vocabulary,syntax and expertise when translating.Meanwhile,after summarizing the experience in the process of translating the social science articles,the translator is aware of the importance of mastering the differences in English and Chinese languages,and realizes her shortage in translating the professional works.Given this,the translator will focus on the improvement in translating this type of text with guidance of the differences in two languages for future practices.
