Technology has been more and more important in people's daily life.People are also concerned about the development of the future technology, since they hope the technology can help human beings solve some urgent global issues. The purpose of this English-Chinese translation practice is to know some hot issues in scientific and technological area, and to understand the rules of scientific and technological text translation. The book What the Future Looks Like has 70 thousand words.I translated the whole text which took nearly 5 months. The quality of the translation practice is monitored by both the tutor and the client. The translation practice report takes the translation of the eighth, ninth, tenth section as the main contents to analyse under the guidance of Peter Newmarks' semantic translation and communicative translation. It also summarizes the relevant translation techniques of scientific and technological text. This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter describes the task, which introduces the source of the task, the requirements of the client, and the content of the task.In the second chapter,it describes the task procedures, which introduces pre-translation work, translation process, and post-translation work. Before the translation,I arranged the daily translation task and prepared some related tools. The translation process includes comprehension and expression.Post-translation work mainly includes proofreading and type setting. The third chapter is about the definition of Peter Newmarks' semantic translation and communicative translation and its combination with scientific and technological text. The fourth chapter which is the key part of the report analyses some translation techniques under the guidance of semantic translation and communicative translation from the perspectives of word, sentence and text. The last chapter summarizes gains and lessons from this translation practice.
