A Reflective Practice Report On The Escort Interpreting Of Malaysian Delegation's Visit To Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone

With globalization and accelerated expansion of the domestic tourism industry,an increasing number of foreigners choose China as their travel destination,which makes high demands on the quantity and quality of guide interpreters.Guide interpreting requires interpreters not only to interpret and explain accurately,but to solve problems and efficiently communicate with the tourists.Strong timeliness and immediate responds are indispensable for guide interpreters,so do sufficient knowledge reservation and excellent oral English ability.Based on the study of interpreting practice of Malaysian Delegation's visit to Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone,the author mainly encounters two major problems and puts forward the corresponding solutions.First,information loss;due to poor short-term memory and insufficient preparations,Buddhist terms and allusions within tourist attractions is basically lost.The corresponding solution is to intensify the interpreter's short-term memory training and make full pre-task preparations,especially the Buddhist knowledge.Second,misinterpretation;Buddhist names,ceremony and terminologies are misinterpreted because of misunderstandings of Buddhist knowledge and lack of cultural knowledge reserves.Amplification is adopted to cope with this problem via asking Chinese tour guide for help to improve the quality of interpretation.The author analyzes the problems in the process of interpreting practice,and puts forward the corresponding suggestions and hopes to be beneficial to the MTI students and fellow escort interpreters.
