The materials for the simulated consecutive interpreting practice come from an online course “Culture-Driven Team Building” made by Greg Urban,Professor of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania. As the quality of the simulated English-Chinese consecutive interpreting is influenced by many factors, the thesis aims to summarize those factors in this practice for the purpose of having a better understanding of consecutive interpreting and helping interpreters do a better job in future practices. On the basis of the summary, the author puts forward some relevant strategies and suggestions which may be of some referential value for the consecutive interpreting practices of other interpreters as well.In addition to a brief introduction and a conclusion, the thesis is divided into four parts. After giving the objective, background and the significance of this report, the author presents the general background of the simulated consecutive interpreting in the first chapter. In the second chapter, the author mainly introduces the process of the simulated consecutive interpreting, which includes the preparation of relevant materials, the adoption of interpreting theories, personnel assignment, the implementation of the simulated process, the measures of emergency handling and the SCI assessment. In the third chapter, the author mainly analyzes and sums up three kinds of problems occurring in the process of the simulated consecutive interpreting, such as misinterpretation, information loss, etc.,and puts forward some necessary and effective countermeasures for solving the problems mentioned above on the basis of adopting relevant interpreting theories. In the conclusion part, the author points out that in spite of such unavoidable influencing factors, the interpreters can try their best to reduce mistakes by consciously adopting some interpreting theories and continuous practices. In order to achieve that goal, the interpreters need to take a sincere and rigorous attitude and constantly hold a firm faith of improving themselves in all aspects. It is hoped that this thesis can bring help for other interpreters in their future English-Chinese consecutive interpreting more or less.
