Teaching material plays an important part in the construction of all subjects.The quality of textbook compiling determines whether or not the teaching process can be accomplished smoothly.It also suits for the textbook of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.As the emergence of "mandarin fever",more and more people are learning Chinese.Therefore,the requirements for the textbook of Chinese are much higher now.As the elementary teaching material,the importance of basic textbooks for Chinese is self-evident.<<Chinese Made Easy>,an influential comprehensive Chinese text book,is written by Ma Yaming.This article,taking it as the research object,will mainly discuss the compiling theory of text books,texts,phonetics,words,grammar,Chinese characters and practice.Additionally,it gives further explanations for the merits and demerits of text books,based on our teaching practice and conclusion of the characteristics and its related exercises.we put forward some suggestions about how to use this book appropriately and how to compile text books for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.This thesis consists of six parts.The first part concludes the research reason,significance and summaries the studies of teaching material.In the second part,the author will have an analysis of the compiling concept,language elements and practice.The third part will have a questionnaire to some teachers and students who used this book.The forth part will put forward some suggestions about how to use this book appropriately and how to compile text books for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.In the fifth part,the author will summary all the content about the series of<< Chinese Made Easy>>.In general,there are various topics and genres in the texts of << Chinese Made Easy>>,which not only justify the real life of students,but also get rid of the traditional way in which dialogue form takes on the central part in the basic text books for Chinese.It employed the way in which many topics,such as dialogue,practical and narrative form,are of equal status,and consequently the text can include more information.As for phonetics,it adopts the compiling way in which the teaching of initial consonant and simple or compound vowel and phonological rules cometogether.Nevertheless,due to the lack of practice,the compiling of the knowledge of phonetics is not complete.Firstly,at the level of words,<< Chinese Made Easy>>insists on the theory of sinogram-based theory,which helps students to broaden their vocabulary instantly.Some words or characters may be over splited,however,a heavy burden coming to students.Secondly,in terms of practice,the practice about language elements is as important as the skills practice.The common sense of culture is also added into this book.On the one hand,the common sense of Chinese culture is included into the reading comprehension,which facilitates Chinese learners' knowledge of Chinese culture.On the other hand,there are lots of exercises which may interfere with their interests in learning.Thirdly,at the level of grammar,this textbook values the re-occurrence of grammar points,because it is strictly based on the syllabus of the Grade Grammar for HSK in choosing its grammar points.But its grammar practice is too mechanical and rigid,being humdrum and boring.
