Combining the translation and research of the main content of The Oxford Handbook of Music Education,Volume I,with 6-month-visiting experience in the U.S.of the author,this study explores the new trend of music education field of the U.S.,and discusses the implications and reference values to Music Education field of China from them.The Oxford Handbook of Music Education,Volume I has 53 Chapters,which contains 7 Parts as following contents: Music Education and The Role of Music in People's Life;Music Learning and Teaching in Infancy and Early Childhood;Music Learning and Teaching During Childhood: Age 5-12;Music Learning and Teaching During Adolescence: Ages 8-12;Vocal and Choral Music;Instrument Music;and Ensembles.It gives us a comprehensive framework of people's experience,behavior and development in the field of education and some relative environments.On the other hand,during the visit at the U.S.,the author had observed some undergraduate and graduate courses of University of South Florida(USF);music classes of two elementary schools at Tampa(FL),Conference of Florida Music Education Association and Suncoast Symposium of School of Music at University of South Florida;as well as a 3-week band and choral classes observation of David Starr Jordan Middle School at Burbank,California.This study uses literature research and practical research as the main methods,taking the research of The Oxford Handbook of Music Education,Volume I as main string,and completes with some practical researches,case studies and field studies as supplements.Saying that,to develop and optimize the general music class in China,music teacher need to catch up the modern steps of music-educating field,using technology as a supplementary mean to give the students a sense of participation,stimulate their creativities,and develop their musicianship.
