Historical texts record historical events occurring in a specific period and describe the causes and effects of incidents from a historical perspective,which help readers to learn more about the background of particular events.Following the history of literary translation,scholars can understand the development of literary translation.They can further explore the its origin and development,and carry out their future studies in this field.This report mainly introduces the translation histories of Dictionaries and C.ommentaries,Commonplaces and Metaphors and The Bible in the second volume of The Oxford History of Literary Translation in English.The translation history of Dictionaries and Commentaries is mainly about the dictionaries writers have taken example by and the commentaries they have quoted from other writers in the process of their literature creation and literary translation during the British Renaissance.The translation history of Commonplaces and Metaphors mainly reflects people's attention on the relationship of translators,writers and readers.It also shows the gradual recognition of translation in the field of English literature.The translation history of The Bible describes the development of the Bible,as well as similarities and differences among its different versions.There is a small number of early modern English and biblical allusions in the text.According to these characteristics,guided by Newmark's Theory of Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation,the author uses reasonable translation strategies,applies a variety of translation tools,searches the biblical allusions and illustrates the differences of semantic translation and communicative translation by taking examples,so as to make deeply analysis of the source texts.The aim of this report is to reproduce the information and style of the original text,as well as to better reproduce the translation histories of Dictionaries and Commentaries,Commonplaces and Metaphors and The Bible.The hope of this report is to provide a reference for those who have interests in this type of literature.
