A Report On The English Translation Of Characteristic Musical Instruments And Folk Culture Of Guangxi Minority Nationalities(Chapter Two)

This report relates the practice of translation for page 38-59 of Characteristic Musical Instruments and Folk Culture of Guangxi Minority Nationalities,wrote by Professor Gao Min,published in 2010.Consisting of five parts,the book introduces characteristic musical instruments and folk culture of Guangxi minority nationalities and their humanistic significance comprehensively and systematically in details.In consideration of the cultural features of the source text,the author applied Susan Bassnett's Cultural Translation Theory as the guiding principle for the translation project.The report is formed by five chapters.The first one is the introduction;the second one comes to the preparations for the translation project;the third one consists of the introductions to Cultural Translation Theory and its guidance to the translation task;the fourth one is the body of the translation report,which analyzed cases from lexical and syntactic level,each with certain prominent aspects in details.Under the guidance of Susan Bassnett's Cultural Translation Theory,for achieving effective communication,the author took the translation strategy of relying on foreignization method at the level of culture and domestication method at the level of language.Besides,various translation methods and skills were adopted to enhance translation practice ability so as to faithfully transform information to the target readers and enable them to obtain the same meaning and feeling as that of their counterparts at home do when reading the source text;the fifth one is the conclusion of the task.It is hoped that this report will offer some referential value for the translation of folk culture and make some contributions to traditional cultural heritage and cultural output effect of minority nationalities,thus further promote cross-cultural communication.
