As a report on the consecutive interpretation between Chinese and English with text, this dissertation describes a simulated interpreting for Premier Li Keqiang conducted by the author for the press conference after National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (NPC and CPPCC), and analyzes the interpretation for Premier Li Keqiang and the journalists to discuss some common difficulties of the consecutive interpretation as well as coping strategies and solutions.Assuming that the task process consists of two stages:the preparation for the working environment and the pre-interpretation preparation. Each of them is bound with a different focus, the interpreter should give the pre-interpreting preparation more priority in conference interpretation after further analysis of the selected cases.Derived from the study on Interpreting and Translation of International Conferences, French school of The Interpreting Theory (TIT) insists that the aim of the interpreting is to deliver sense. TIT can be divided into three processes: comprehension, de-verbalization and reformulation.Through the task description and analysis, it is found that:on one hand, pre-interpreting preparation in press conference interpreting is of utmost importance. The Report on the Work of the Government is a professional reference. And the ceremonial colloquialism can help interpreters to deal with some opening remarks. On the other hand, TIT recommends the interpreters to grasp the overall sense rather than being obsessed with the individual words, which gives guidance to translating culture-loaded expressions. Besides, this dissertation explores the way to improve the note-taking by the adoption of de-verbalization, and the report discusses the strategies in the process of reformulation as well. In the end, some non-verbal strategies for press conference interpreting is put forward.
