Practice Study Report On E-C Translation Of The Testament(excerpts)

John Grisham is one of the most popular novelists in western world.He has wrote a series of legal fiction revealing the social reality of the U.S.,which earned him a high reputation.The Testament is one of his masterpieces.This novel contains both fictional and legal factors.Thus,during the translation,the translator has to spare no efforts to make sure that both fictional content and non-fictional content be transferred to the readers in the most appropriate manner.Eugene Albert Nida is an extraordinary theorist in translation.The theory of functional equivalence is the core of his translation theory.It is the guiding theory of the author's translation practice.The functional equivalence theory includes equivalence of vocabulary,sentence,text and literary form.By the theory,translators shall find the closest and natural equivalent in target language to reproduce the message carried by that in source language.This paper is a study report of translation practice.The purpose of writing this paper is to share the writer's translation practice with the readers.Also,the writer is hoping that this paper could become a reference for later translators or researchers studying the translation of legal fiction.By analyzing the translation process,and summarizing the merits and shortcomings of the translation,the author figured that translation is hard work that requests patience and exploring spirit.One has to keep training to become a qualified translator.
