A Study On The Movie And TV Works Of Taiwanese Military Dependents' Village

In 1980s, a number of films which reflect the appearance of the militarydependents' village and the life style of the military dependents were created inconcentration. After a short period of creation, films with this theme have showedsome signs of recession in the 1990s. In the new century, the creation of the militarydependents' village film was in a slump,but the creation then turned to the field oftelevision and a number of TV series soon appeared. Meanwhile the investment,filming, and release of the military dependents' village films have extended toMainland China. After developing more than three decades, militarydependents' village film and television works have formed some obvious features. Interms of cultural connotations, these works highlight the Chinese culture as theleading factor, also integrated a variety of other cultures into the local culture reflecting the different manifestations of self-identification of the dependents, and thedouble recognition of the national identity. The memories, imagination andreconstruction of the mainland's impression from the dependents generation, describethree separate different images of mainland, fully showing a rich cultural connotationof the film and television works.In the narrative and audiovisual aspects of the film and television works. Theaudiovisual language shows the pluralism of cultural elements in various parts of China, and widely using of the signs of times. The narrative shows the chronological order of time and fixed space of narrative space. The military dependents' villageworks are agree and yet differ, although there are common points between the works,they are still different from each other. Dependents subject films emphasis onindividuals, focusing on characterizing the family portrait of the village and daily lifethere. The military dependents' village works is various form regions as well.Taiwan's dependents subject film and television works highlighting the local identity,but mainland's works prefer showing parting, highlighting recognition to Chineseidentity. In this dissertation, we can not only learn more about the militarydependents' village, and rethink the village myth which created by the film and TVworks, but also understand the political, economic and cultural development historyof Taiwan.
