A Report On Liaison Interpretation Of Lao Media Group In The 13th China-ASEAN Expo

This paper is a comprehensive summary of the author's experience of working as a liaison Interpreter for the 13th China-ASEAN Expo from September 5th to 15th,2016.The task object of this interpretation is the Laos media group.Due to the long span and multi-scene of the interpretation practice,several important scenarios are selected for the case analysis in the current project.To start with,the author provides a brief introduction of the task's background,object and purposes,then defines the concept of liaison interpretation,and review briefly the studies on liaison interpretation both domestic and abroad.Furthermore,the author analyzes the procedure of liaison interpretation,including the pre-task interpretation and the description of the tasks.The pre-task preparation includes four parts:background information,foreign affairs knowledge,Laotian English accent and psychological preparation.A number of examples are selected for analysis in terms of interpretation strategies,skills,language style and errors.For example,the analysis of"Liaison interpretation in the airport pick-up" mainly focuses on difficulties in English and Chinese conversation,as well as the corresponding strategies.The "liaison interpretation in the journalist welcome dinner" focuses on the language style of the speech,the errors and the remediation method in the interpretation.Through the practice,the author obtains some enlightenment from client assessment and self-evaluation,with a hope to provide a better reference for the future career.
