| With the advent of globalization,China has become an integral part of the world economy.International cooperation between China and the rest of the world has thrived both in scale and frequency,in addition,external exchange has now more than ever been attached with unprecedented emphasis.Consequently,escorting interpreting for state-sponsored exchange activity has become a scenario that interpreters ought to be familiar with.Interpreting for state-sponsored exchange activity can be somewhat different from other events as it usually involves more elements than other common business events.In comparison,sports and official banquets are the focal points of this campaign,and all participants are invited to participate in a tour to local attraction sites,whereas common business events usually feature a single topic without too many extra activities.Interpreting for state-sponsored exchange activity featuring a variety of topics can provide useful reference to future interpreting in diversified activities.In this report,interpreting of sports jargons and menu translation are subject to close analysis.Meanwhile,Interpreting for non-native speaker is great challenge,as English is not always the mother tongue of the diplomats involved in this campaign.Thirdly,this report also addresses problems regarding titles,religious taboos,etc.Furthermore,a visit to the ancient attractions in Fuzhou is also part of the campaign itinerary.Proper interpreting of cultural topics with Chinese characteristics is also a focal point of this report.By applying skopos theory and interpreting tactics to solve various problems regarding each topic in this campaign,the author is able to gain insight into the interpreting in state-sponsored exchange activity.By summarizing useful experience and avoidable missteps and generalizing interpreting methods,this report will provide useful reference to future interpreting in state-sponsored exchange activity. |
