| With the further development of China’s economy,the exchange between China and other countries in all round extremely spurs the needs for professional interpreters.As one of the most common interpreting forms,escort interpreting is quite frequently practiced in daily social activities.As a student majoring in MTI in Chengdu University of Technology(hereinafter referred to as CDUT),the author acted as a volunteer in the 4th International Symposium on Mega Earthquake Induced Geo-disaster and Long Term Effects(hereinafter referred to as MEIGLTE),which was held by State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection(hereinafter referred to as SKLGP)at CDUT.In the event,the author was also assigned to be a daily escort interpreter for an Indian Geologist Dr.Yogendra Deva,deputy chairman of International Association for Engineering Geology(hereinafter referred to as IAEG).Taking Escort Interpreting for an Expert in the 4th International Symposium on MEIGLTE as an example,this report introduces the background information,the preparation and the process of the project.In order to complete this task,the author makes sufficient preparation.Meanwhile,under the guidance of Skopos theory,the author analyzes the problem of Indian accent and applies amplification to solve the problem of cultural difference;and the author deals with extra requirements of the client in a timely and efficient manner.At last,the author evaluates the project from the perspectives of the client and herself.The escort interpreting project is successfully completed.From the escort interpreter practice,the author finds that preparation is of crucial importance for the success of interpreting project.The resolution of problems in the course of interpreting can be promoted by preparations of schedule and emergency plan.Furthermore,accent problems can be solved by consulting experts and electrical dictionaries.In the course of various interpreting situations,conflicts caused by cultural differences can be avoided by applying amplification.At the same time,taking an active role of dealing with workload beyond escort interpreting will satisfy the clients.The author hopes these experiences and lessons of the escort interpreting practice could be a reference for interpreters in the future. |
