Escort Interpreting At Tea Plantations: A Case Study

Escort interpreting is a form of interpreting activity characterized by informality and immediacy.Therefore,it is commonly applied to informal business negotiations,business fieldwork and tour and sightseeing.With the author's escort interpreting practice at the tea plantations of Xinyang and Tongbai in Henan Province in August,2016 as the case and skopos theory as the theoretical foundation,this report gives a detailed analysis of the strategies employed in this interpreting practice.These strategies employed under skopos theory helped the author fulfill this interpreting task and reach the goal of communication.A large number of examples are listed in this report which prove the effectiveness of skopos theory in the escort interpreting practice.In spite of the author's personal experience,these interpreting strategies are still worthy of certain reference.Studying escort interpreting from the perspective of skopos theory not only proves the feasibility and necessity of this theory as the guidance in the interpreting practice,but also serves as a frame of reference for other interpreting activities.
