Under the background of globalization,strengthening global communication and promoting the international visibility of international publicity is a must attempt to enhance China’s soft power and global influence,building China a positive image in the world.At present,the mainstream English media in China,Xinhuanet sponsored by Xinhua news agency,and Global times under People’s Daily play an important role in promoting the country’s global communication by telling Chinese stories and spreading China’s voice to the outside world through the way of translation/trans-editing.At the same time,their English news has become model samples for the local news translation and English news writing and teaching.Though C-E translation/trans-editing plays such an important role in the country’s global communication,it received less attention in translation studies,and among the previous studies,most of them have been conducted on English-Chinese news translation,which leads to a gap in the research of Chinese-English news translation.Therefore,the author attempts to conduct a research on C-E news translation strategies taking China’s above mainstream English media as the corpus to explore into how translators translate the news effectively from the perspective of persuasive rhetoric for the purpose of building a more objective,positive and real China international image and helping promote Chinese international discourse power.Originated from the ancient city-state period of Greek and Roman,rhetoric has laid down a solid theoretical foundation for the formation and development of human communication,which is also the theoretical source for international communication.The western rhetorical tradition regards persuasion as its core to study the rhetorical discourse.Under the background of globalization,the persuasive rhetorical theory still plays a significant role in guiding global communication.Under the western rhetoric framework,the author analyzes the English corpora of Xinhuanet and Global Times and their corresponding Chinese news reports,and summarizes three principles,"Loyalty","Appropriateness" and "Audience-Centered" principles should be followed in C-E trans-editing.This paper then comes to a conclusion that translators should enhance their rhetoric awareness in C-E news translation.And besides the ’literal translation" strategy,strategies of "adding","deleting","rewriting" and“selecting’ are often applied in news translation and editing,which are also rhetorical strategies employed to facilitate China’s global communication in this regard.It is hoped that the attempt to explore C-E news trans-editing strategies under the persuasive rhetoric would help broaden the scope and horizon of news trans-editing research and thus shed some light on the practice of C-E news translation.
