A Report On The Translation Of The History Of The Medieval World

With the international communication becoming increasingly close,the communication between countries also becomes more and more frequent.It is not only showing in important areas,such as politics and economy,but also showing in history and culture.Therefore,during the process,translation becomes one of the important medium.The origin of the present translation project is the book The History of the Medieval World.The author of this thesis translated chapter four to nine.There are over 12,000 words in all.The original text made a detailed description to the history,geography,politics,military,important human beings and events of each country in medieval times.At the same time,the translation can be a good choice for those who want to learn the history of medieval times and those who are interested in it.The paper is composed of two parts: translation practice and report on the practice.The translation practice covers that the author translates the selected chapters into Chinese.This thesis consists of four chapters,each of which contributes its own part to make the thesis as a whole.The first part is a brief introduction to the translated project which covers the introduction of the original author Susan Wise Bauer and the introduction of the history text as well as the structure of the paper.The second part covers two steps of the translation task.The first step is pre-translation preparation which contains obtaining background knowledge,the selection of translation tools and the establishment of glossary.The second step is the process of translation,including understanding,linguistic expression and proofreading.The third part is the most important part in the whole paper which includes difficulties the translator met and some skills used during translating the project.And the last part the paper makes a summary of the translation project.At last,the translator summarizes experiences and limitations in this report,and makes some suggestions.In this practice,the author deeply realizes that translation is not easy.At the same time,the author also has a deep understanding that if one wanted to be a good translator,he or she requires many qualities and makes full preparation.The author still has a long way to go in the process of becoming a qualified translator.There are still many shortcomings to be improved in the paper.Due to the limited time,the paper still having some problems,the author hopes that the paper has a deep research and investigation.
