This translation report is based on the translation of selected chapters of The Mayo Clinic Breast Cancer Book,which,with high expertise and recommendation,was co-written by many medical experts at the Mayo Clinic.The author rendered the sixth and the seventh chapters into Chinese and finished this report accordingly.The Mayo Clinic Breast Cancer Book gives brief details of general information about breast cancer,which include an overview of the disease,risk statistics,hereditary breast cancer,how to prevent and diagnose the disease,the latest on screening,precancerous conditions,different pathological type of breast cancer,breast reconstruction,follow-up and surveillance and so on.The sixth chapter talks about how to prevent breast cancer from three aspects: lifestyle factors,women at high risk and future directions and the seventh chapter gives a brief introduction of the latest on screening from the respects of breast self-awareness,clinical breast examination and mammography.Guided by Peter Newmark's Text Category Translation Theory,the translation process is discussed in detail in this report.Peter Newmark holds the opinion that different methods should be used in the translation of different types of texts.The subject of this translation report is a kind of information text,which is suitable for the method of communication translation.Meanwhile,this text also has the characteristics of scientific text,so the translator should have solid foundation of English and some medical knowledge and can use other translation methods to feature the unique characteristics of scientific text.This translation report chooses proper cases in the original text and translated text,analyzing them by combining with Peter Newmark's Text Category Translation Theory.This report includes four chapters.Chapter One is the translation project description,including translation task selection,text analysis and the meaning of the project.Chapter Two is the description of the translation process.With the guidance of Peter Newmark's Text Category Translation Theory,this chapter includes the preparation of the translation,the analysis and modification of the three draft translations.Chapter Three gives a set of case studies with multiple translation methods.Chapter Four summarizes the translation task and rethinks the problems appeared in the translation process,in the hope of providing references for futuristic practice.
