With the increasingly frequent exchange and cooperation of international medical treatments,Medical English as a branch of EST(English for Science and Technology)attracts more and more attention.Medical English is equipped with its unique vocabulary characteristics and stylistic features. The report is based on one of the series of books at Mayo Clinic in the United States,Mayo Clinic Guide to Fertility and Conception, which is of great significance and guidance in today's China when infertility has been increasingly severe. The book is oriented to patients who are suffering from infertility. The author chooses the second part of the book “How to Get Pregnant” as the translation task, which is exhibited in 5 chapters, namely “How Babies Are Made”,“Ovulation and Fertility Signs”,“Tips for Increased Success”,“Are You Pregnant” and “Miscarriage and Ectopic Pregnancy” respectively. This report briefly introduces the origin of the translation task and describes the translation process.Initiating from the elucidation of the lexical and stylistic characteristics of medical English, this report tries to form a framework on the translation and construction of the reproductive terminology, and struggles to seek the model on the translation of medical English.Furthers more,it attempts to achieve equivalence with respect to the vocabulary, sentence, text and readers' response. In the process of seeking for general guiding principles of medical English translation, translation methods such as literal and liberal translation and techniques like addition, omission, conversion on part of speech and voice are adopted. To conclude, being a qualified medical English translator, one has to grasp the characteristics of parallel Chinese medical text, and analyze comparatively the characteristics of medical Chinese and medical English.Considering cultural differences between the West and China, this report gives priority to the equivalence of readers' response and perception. So it is required that the translation of medical terms be accurate and identical, the language be concise and colloquial, and the discourse be smooth and coherent.
