| The material I translated is from the book MAYO CLINIC ON HEALTHY AGING. This project is completed by five students in my class, the translator is responsible for the translation of the sixth chapter and the seventh chapter. MAYO CLINIC ON HEALTHY AGING is the research findings of the Mayo Clinic, which is a world famous private non-profit medical institutions, to provide reliable information about dealing with the common physical, emotional and lifestyle-related changes that occur with aging.This translation report can be divided into four parts besides the original in English and the translation in Chinese. The first part is an introduction of the translation task, which mainly includes the source of the task, the translated test and the significance of the project. The second part is the translation process that elaborates the whole translation process in four stages, which are the preparation, the analysis and modification of the first sketch, the analysis and modification of the second sketch and the analysis and retouching of the final sketch. The third part is the case analysis, which analyzes the difficulties encountered during the process of translation form the lexical, syntactic level and cultural differences on the basis of functional translation theory. The fourth part is the conclusion, which includes unsolved problems during the translation and related thinking and inspiration and prospect for future work. The third part, case analysis, is the main part of this report.Through this translation practice, the translator deeply realizes that translation is not just the simple shift of words and sentences between two different languages, but quite a complicated work. Before the translation, the translator should be proficient in two languages and also have a certain degree of understanding of the professional knowledge involved in the translation materials. Then the translator can be quite capable to transform between two languages. |
