This report is about the translation of The History of China written by Kenneth Pletcher.This book has 15 chapters that have introduced China's great changes from the ancient times to the 21 st century,including the political system,culture,economy and some big events.With this book,we can know more about foreigners' perspective about Chinese history which can attract more Chinese readers,and satisfy our curiosity about how the foreign describe the history of China.The report has chosen three chapters,which are The Shang dynasty,The Han dynasty and The establishment of the People's Republic of China.Firstly,this report gives a brief introduction to the background and significance of the project.On one hand,the author lists some reasons for choosing this book and introduces Peter Newmark's translation strategy;on the other hand,the author points out the significance of choosing this book as translation project.Secondly,the report introduces the translation project in detail,including a brief introduction to the book,some features of the excerpts and the process of the translation project,the preparation the author has done for translating this book,and the process of translation and post-translation.Thirdly,the report explains Peter Newmark's translation strategy of a correlative approach to translation and the theoretical background in detail.The report adopts Peter Newmark's translation strategy as its theoretical background in consideration of the content and the stylistic features of The History of China.Then,the report lists some applications of this strategy,especially from the lexical level,from the grammatical level,and from the text relevance level.Finally,the report summarizes this report and analyzes Peter Newmark's translation strategy,and makes suggestions for further study.So this report emphasizes not only the translation theory in detail,and some key and important points in this translation project,but makes contribution to the exchange between different countries.
