With the rapid growth of Chinese national economy, further deepening of the execution of the Reform and Opening up policy and the acceleration of the world's economic and cultural globalization, the communication and exchange between China and other foreign countries has become more frequent and more fruitful. Meanwhile, the development of sport industry has also entered into a new era. Professional sport,especially the professional football industry has been flourishing in the past 10 years. As the most popular sport event in the world, football has become a key indicator of the so called the "soft power" of a country. Manchester United,a football club from Manchester city in England, is one of the greatest football clubs in the football history. In the past 20 years, this club exerted a great influence on its Chinese fans. The great performance this club made in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League let Chinese fans appreciated the great charm of football and have finally became the die-hard fan of this great club. According to a survey conducted by the Sky Sports,the mainstream sport media in the Britain, the team jersey sales and the audience rating of the Manchester United in China has been topped among the 30 Premier League football clubs from 2004 to 2014. It's business activity income has increased from 1.5 million dollars in 2004 to 30 million dollars in 2014, which has strongly reflected its great influence in the Chinese fans. This thesis is based on the author's own interpretation recordings and the English text written down from the English football documentary film The Class of 92'. The whole recording, analyzing and concluding process is conducted in a relatively comprehensive and objective way. In this thesis,main difficulties during the interpreting process including accented English, long sentences and tenses have been discovered and the causes and necessary solutions were discussed in order to realize the accuracy and intelligibility of the interpretation English football documentary film. The ultimate goal of this thesis is to provide helpful experiences and reasonable interpreting skills for the similar interpretation tasks in the future.The Interpretive Theory of Translation (ITT) is an important theoretical framework among E-C interpreting theories. According to the ITT, the core of the interpreting process is to deliver the meanings between speakers and listeners instead of just focusing on a few words or sentences. There are mainly three stages in the interpretation process in the ITT which are comprehension(understanding), deverbalization(getting out of the language form of the source language ) and reformulation(re-expression). After developing for a few decades, the Interpretive Theory of Translation has made a great difference on the development of E-C interpretation.This interpretation report can be divided into 5 parts. Part 1: Introduction. This part is the introduction of this interpretation task including the purposes, outline and value.Part 2: Introduction of related background information. In this part, information about the English documentary films(definition,classifications,history and characteristics ) and a brief introduction of the English football documentary film The Class of 92' are covered.Part 3: Introduction of the Interpretive Theory of Translation. In this part, the basic information about the ITT ( definition, history, model ) and the interpreting activity(definition, classifications, characteristics and the quality that a professional interpreter should possess). Part 4: case study. After this interpretation task, four typical interpreting difficulties and solutions will be discussed in this part: listening difficulty cause by accented English from different countries and districts,; the interpretation of professional football terms,; as there is no tense changes in Chinese words,the interpretation of different English tenses into Chinese has became one difficulty during this task; the interpretation of long sentences and solutions of these difficulties: firstly,taking the accented English listening materials as the standard practicing materials and extracting audio files from the biggest accented English database in the world so far:Speech Accent Archive (http://accent.gmu.edu/) to conduct research and analysis in the phonetic level. Secondly,taking full preparations before the interpretation task: making the list of professional football terms and expressions and using symbols during the note-taking. Thirdly, using division and combination method to finish the interpretation of English long sentences. Fourthly,when doing the E-C interpretation,Chinese words and expressions which mark the changes of tenses should be used to express the change of tenses from the source language.. Part 5: Conclusion. This part will conduct a general conclusion of this interpretation task to provide the pragmatic experiences and beneficial guidance for the interpretations of similar English football documentary films in the future. Meanwhile, the author intend to improve the interpreting capacity on the basis of the theoretical framework and to conduct further exploration and research in the future.
