To keep up the pace of the development international Chinese teaching, every aspect of Chinese education has to improve themselves to keep the engine of the development of international Chinese education. Chinese textbooks should be paid the most attention at the first place. As an important part of Chinese textbook, illustrations can not only decorate the books, but also can help the Chinese learning of students and the teaching of teachers. In the second language teaching, illustrations play a more significant role,illustrations can break the hindrance between different languages to express message to learners and to help their learning and improve the teaching of teachers.But the fact is that no matter the Chinese textbook is published at home or abroad,problems of illustrations exist here and there. The research object of the paper is the illustrations of Integrated Chinese. By counting the illustrations in this book, it got some data, and make the following summaries: 1.the number of illustrations in Integrated Chinese declines from levell part1 to level2 part2. 2.pictures of real products, cartoons and charts are the main illustrations of Integrated Chinese. And pictures of real products and cartoons take the priority to other illustrations, the number of charts is low all the way. At the same time, the number of cartoons decreases, while pictures of real products increases from levell part1 to level2 part2. 3.illustrations of practicing part is the biggest among the other parts of the textbook, and then the illustrations of text, the number of other parts of illustrations play a small role and don't change very much in this book. The number of practicing decreases, and that of text part increases from levell part1 to level2 part2. The changing of the illustration of culture part is the biggest one among the other parts of Integrated Chinese. The illustrations of Chinese characters and phonetics only exist in levell part1.After detailed studied, it found that there are several problems in the illustrations of Integrated Chinese. First, the allocation of proportion of different parts of the book is not reasonable, and many problems like the improper form, the limitation of illustration and lack of pertinence are exit in the illustrations of each part. Second, the problems of the details of illustration are as following: the connection between text and illustration is not strong enough; the points choose to set an illustration is not accurate, some illustrations choose are not representative. Third, the problems of the form of the illustrations are that the illustrations are not artistic enough, and the location of the illustrations are not reasonable enough, and the shape of some illustrations are either too big or too small.After researching the illustration other textbooks and reading essays, it is suggested that the illustrations should be improved from the following aspects: the characteristics of each part of the book, the connection between the text and the pictures, the location and the shape of the pictures, teachers' usage of the illustrationsAt last, the essay summarized itself and pointed its shortcomings out. And also the essay looks forward to the further development of the researching of illustrations.
