| Under the background of global warming and environmental deterioration, China has become the focus of western countries for its environmental protection cause. The C-E translation of environmental news can directly influence our national image. Only by doing well the translation of news, can we clarify China's environmental protection policies and stance to the rest of the world comprehensively and objectively.This report selects the C-E translation of China GEF Newsletter as the study object.Based on the skopos theory, the author regards news translation as a purposeful activity.The purpose of this translation project is to raise target readers' interest and help them grasp accurate information about China's environmental protection work. The author analyzes the stylistic features of English news and the major issues and difficulties encountered during the translating process at lexical, grammatical and syntactical levels.Then, based on the skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, the author takes proper methods including literal and free translation, omission, addition, inversion, reorganization to solve these difficulties including Chinese-featured words, long news headlines and complicated sentences. Environmental news belongs to typical informative text which stresses authenticity, accuracy and readability with a primary function of conveying information. Various translation strategies should be adopted flexibly during translation process so as to make sure that the translated text conforms to the expression features of English news and that the contents are faithful to the source text. This report can provide some suggestions and solutions for the translation of environmental news and the author's ability could be improved during this translation process. |
