A Study On The Exercising Of Interpreter's Subjectivity In Simultaneous Interpretation In Light Of The Cooperative Principle

Interpreting is playing an increasingly important role in facilitating cross-country communication because people's need to communicate with others speaking different languages is multiplying as economic globalization and world multi-polarization have become an irresistible trend.Besides,China's status and influence are steadily on the rise,so is the popularity of the Chinese language.Therefore,simultaneous interpreting between English and Chinese is employed on numerous international occasions.However,interpretation,especially simultaneous interpretation,is still a new subject in China.More studies must be done to reflect upon our past experiences and to gear this tool to the right direction in development.This thesis tries to study the efficiency of simultaneous interpretation and certify that interpreter's subjectivity should be appropriately utilized in light of the Cooperative Principle for the sake of good performance.First of all,an in-depth analysis of the theories of Cooperative Principle and Interpreter's Subjectivity is presented to show their relationship with simultaneous interpretation.The nature of simultaneous interpretation demonstrates that Cooperative Principle is applicable in the situation of simultaneous interpretation as it is a special form of conversation,and its distinct characteristics explain that the interpreter is of essential and pivotal importance as he or she is functioning as the bridge between the two sides of the conversation.Besides,this thesis also focuses on the analysis of an abundant amount of real-time simultaneous interpreting examples between English and Chinese.Six speeches delivered by Chinese and foreign state leaders were carefully analyzed.Through the analysis,a conclusion can be easily drawn to show the ideal effects it can achieve when the interpreter's subjectivity is put to good use in light of the Cooperative Principle.
