With the development of society,the museum,which integrates the functions of collection,exhibition and research,provides people a good opportunity to broaden horizons and enlarge vision.How to perform well in the collection and exhibition of the cultural relics as well as the publicity and education of the museum is a vital task faced by the museum.But now,the comprehensive quality and the working capacity of the staff in museums vary considerably,making it a long way to finish this vital task.However,learning from western countries can help us achieve the task.Translating the works related to museums is thus of practical significance to improve the working ability of museum staffs.The author is lucky enough to participate in this translation practice task entrusted by Qingdao Museum,and be responsible for the translation of Chapter 1 to Chapter 4.Under the guidance of the Functionalist Skopos Theory,this report gives a description of translation task and translation process on the basis of the translation of the first four chapters of A Life in Museums: Managing Your Museum Career.In addition,this report also discusses the application of the Functionalist Skopos Theory in terms of translation strategies,translation methods and translation skills.Finally,the report gives some summaries of translation experience acquired from this translation practice.
