| Escort interpreting refers to the interpreting task in reception,tourism,visits,etc.Unlike conference interpreting,escort interpreting features more direct and longer communication among interpreters and people involved.Therefore,the content of escort interpreting tends to be more diverse and flexible.This report is based on the interpreting practice where the author served as an escort interpreter for PLC programmer from ThyssenKrupp in February,2016.In the report,first of all,the author gives a brief description of this interpreting task.Then the whole interpreting process is elaborated in detail,which includes preparation work and field work performance.The author offers specific analyses on barriers that he encountered in the interpreting process afterwards,namely barriers in culture,language and knowledge.According to the principles of the Skopos theory,especially the Skopos principle as well as flexible application of those principle,the author analyzes on the coping skills used in the task with case studies,including inquiry,imitation,summary,omitting and adding.With those skills,the author effectively solved problems in the process,and successfully completed the task.The conclusion and suggestions in this paper are somewhat useful for further practices. |
