The teaching of Chinese characters,as an important part of Chinese teaching,should be given enough attention and correctly treatment during the teaching arrangement.Teaching Chinese characters has been in a subordinate and lagging position throughout Chinese teaching activities and learner’s acquisition.In view of the current situation of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,the teaching of Chinese characters has been attached to the comprehensive Chinese course,it is hard to actualize a totally independent course of teaching Chinese character in teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.So at elementary stage,we would like to advocate that to develop a relatively independent teaching activities of Chinese character in the framework of a comprehensive Chinese course.As a branch of the teaching system of Chinese as a foreign language,teaching Chinese characters also has its own independent system,internal teaching rules and teaching content.The construction of a relatively independent teaching system of Chinese characters should take the selection of teaching content,the quantity,the theory and knowledge of Chinese character,the practice methods and the assessment of Chinese characters all into account.The main body of the paper is divided into five parts.The first chapter is to summarize the research of Chinese characters,which orientated to teaching Chinese as a foreign language,and to determine the content and the main methods of this study and to explain the significance of its research.The second chapter is to examine the attributes of the Chinese characters and the relationship among all the constituent elements of Chinese character.Further combined with the relevant laws of Chinese characters acquisition and teaching,to consider how to use the attributes of the Chinese characters themselves,and to determine the amount of teaching content and the arrangement.The third chapter focuses on the comparative analysis of the teaching materials of Chinese characters in different types of textbook.The purpose is to master the existing circumstances about the selection of Chinese teaching content,which from the comprehensive teaching textbook,independent Chinese characters teaching materials and other Chinese teaching materials using overseas.After that to discuss the primary relatively independent teachingcontent of Chinese character under the framework of comprehensive course,which can provide some reference for our teaching.The study of Chinese characters in fourth chapter is to do a statistical analysis of the learning situation of foreign students based on the inter-language corpus.To do a respectively research about the connection between the structure type,amount of parts,strokes and the error rate of Chinese characters.And then making a explanation about how to define the students’ wrong of writing Chinese characters.Taking the influences of different aspects of Chinese characters on the learners’ learning process into account,we try to construct a standard to weigh the difficulty coefficient of Chinese characters by calculating the influence of different elements.The figure about learning difficulty of each single Chinese character is mainly applied to the selection of Chinese characters teaching content in the textbook and the assistance of teaching.In fifth chapter,based on the comparative analysis of textbooks and the statistical results of writing material from the HSK corpus,the paper puts forward some suggestions on the selection of teaching materials of Chinese characters in the primary comprehensive course,which mainly focuses on the quantification,presentation and practice of teaching materials.Last,the research achievements,the shortcomings and the direction of the follow-up research are summarized at the end of this paper.
