| As a project report on English to Chinese business contract translation,the source text of this project is a Supplementary Schedule to Implementation Agreement,which belongs to the category of business English contract.This translation project report aims to present a discussion upon the difficulties that the translator met in this project and conclude solutions in the end.In this whole translation project,three phases have been summed up as the preparation,execution and revision.The preparation contains working out a translation plan,preparing the translation tool and a close study of parallel texts.The execution includes glossary-making and the selection of translation theory.The revision refers to the repeated revisions by the translator and her responsible tutors in order to ensure the accuracy as much as possible.In the analysis chapter,examples of significance are selected for the analysis of the difficulties in the translation of vocabulary and sentences,such as that of specialized vocabulary,ancient words,synonyms as well as attributive clauses.Through the detailed analysis,the conclusion can be drawn as below: the most indispensible element prior to the translation is to understand the source text as much as possible.In addition,the study of some parallel texts is also a must.Contract belongs to the category of law text.Therefore for translation of those specialized word,the translator should refer to some translation tools,reference books or even seek assistance from the Internet with discreet judgment.For ancient words translation,the translator should change the words through some “formula” and then translate.When it comes to the translation of synonym words,it should seek the overlapped meaning of the synonyms for translation.In the attributive clauses translation,translator should carefully analyze the sentence structures and translate the clauses in the pre or post position in line with Chinese language style and custom. |
