As an important way of different cultural exchanges,translation has been prevalent in every aspect of our life by means of such media as books,newspapers and the like.The translation of current affairs concerning hot social issues in English news is more helpful for us to know what's happening home and abroad in a comprehensive and objective way.Brexit has been the hot social issue in the front page of The Economist in the past several months.Whether Brexit will be successful or not,it wil have a great impact on the Chinese economy and politics and become the focus of concern for Chinese people,owing to the close relationship among China,Britain and other European countries.Meanwhile,The Economist,as an authoritative international newspaper,is relatively influential.Therefore,the choice and the translation of a series of reports on Brexit taken from The Economist will help us know Brexit in details,find our own position correctly and orient ourselves in the coming storm of big changes.Under the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,the author of this thesis makes a study of the methods of news translation,taking a series of reports on Brexit selected from The Economist as its cor:pora.Firstly,the author of this thesis analyzes the features of The Economist,and introduces the background of Brexit.Secondly,the author elaborates on the core of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,the characteristics of news translation and the significance of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory for its guidance in the translation of news.Thirdly,the author discusses the difficult points encountered in the translation and ways of overcoming them at the levels of words,sentences and discourses.Finally,the author summarizes the problems encountered in the course of her translation practice and her own insights.The present study aims at combining the translation theories which the author has learned with the translation practice,thus improving the author's ability in terms of translation and making some contributions to providing some references for readers to know more about Brexit.
