Information Equivalence In E-C Translation Of Forestry News

The textbook compiling project of Translation Workshop:Reading and Translating is a university-level project,aiming to provide more practical teaching materials for MTI training.The author participates in the corpus preparation stage and compiles two chapters("Politics"and"Health and Medical Care")of the textbook.The English forestry news in the corpus has lexical and stylistic features entirely different from Chinese language habit,which brings difficulty to translation and is worth researching.Therefore,the English forestry news in the project is taken as the analysis object.Combining it with text typology and functional equivalence theory,this report summarizes the measures to deal with meaning information and style information in the translating process,in order to achieve information equivalence.The theory of functional equivalence emphasizes that equivalence of the function between the source text and translated text should be achieved in translation.Forestry news is a kind of informative text,whose main function is to satisfy people's demand for information,so attention should be paid to the equivalence of information transmission in the process of translation.The information in English forestry news can be divided into meaning information and style information.While translating English forestry news,translation methods such as addition and annotation are used to deal with meaning information.Thus,the conceptual meaning information is explicated and the connotative meaning information is clarified,supplementing target readers'vacancy of professional knowledge.In dealing with style information,the conversion of sentence components is adopted,transforming the passive voice into active voice and transforming the style of right branching into left branching.Such process of style information makes the translated text closer to Chinese language habit and improves its readability.According to the illustration above,the report summarizes the translation methods of English forestry news in the project and rethinks their gain and loss,hoping to provide a reference for the study of the translation of English forestry news.
