Strategies Applied In Interpreting Traditional Chinese Cultural Elements

In modern society,exchanges between China and foreign countries have increased drastically.These exchanges exist in economics,politics,military,culture and etc,among which culture exchanges are conducive to mutual understanding between China and other countries.Chinese culture is broad and includes various elements.As an integral part of traditional Chinese culture,Chinese tea exerts its influence on many other countries.The interpreting task report describes an interpreting service at a tea lecture whose listeners have very little understanding of Chinese culture.That tea lecture involves the origin,evolution,classification of tea as well as tea art.This interpreting report is divided into four parts.Part one is an overall introduction to the interpreting task,clients,requirements and the audience.Part two gives detailed information about the interpreting process which is divided into pre-task preparation,on-site interpreting and interpreting strategies.Part three is case analysis based on the two rules of skopos theory,i.e.coherence rule and fidelity rule.Cases are given to demonstrate whether coherence rule is achieved at language level or at culture level,and whether the interpreting output is faithful to the speaker or to the audience.Some mistakes in the interpreting task show the violation of the two rules.The last part is a conclusion,including self-evaluation,findings of this interpreting task and implications for future study.
