| As the economic globalization promotes tourism,an increasing number of foreign tourists come to China for its diverse tourist attractions,with expectations of learning more about Chinese culture.Guide interpreting plays an important role in this cross-cultural communication,which requires appropriate interpreting strategies due to huge differences between cultures.As one of the famous ancient towns in Chongqing,no English guided tour service is provided in Longxing Ancient Town,has not yet provided English-language director services.This report is just based on the author’s interpreting practice in Longxing Ancient Town in July2020.The interpretation of culture-loaded words is a major problem in this interpreting practice.This report firstly describes the background and the whole process of this interpreting task,then gives a brief introduction of the Skopos Theory and its application in interpreting.After that,based on the three rules of Skopos Theory,the major difficulties related to culture-loaded words can be summarized in the following three types and corresponding strategies are put forward to solve these problems under the guidance of Skopos Theory.In dealing with proper names of historical figures and places,interpreting strategies including transliteration plus annotation,literal translation and addition are adopted under the guidance of fidelity rule;With regard to quotation of poems and couplets and idioms,paraphrasing,generalization and explanation are applied in line with coherence rule;For the redundancy caused by repeated expressions,interpreting strategies such as generalization,omission,combination and substitution are proposed in accordance with skopos rule.This report aims to explore the application of the Skopos Theory in interpreting practice,in the hope of providing some references for guiding interpreting work in the future. |
