Subjectivity Consciousness Of Interpreters In Liaison Interpreting

With the continuous development of Chinese economy and its day-by-day closer contact with the rest of the world,interpreters are gaining a more important role in international business and accordingly,their value and social status are increasing.The focuses of studies are shifting to interpreters as subject as well.The consciousness of the interpreters' proper role in business interpreting will affect the communication outcomes to a large extent.The author holds the point of view that,subjectivity consciousness of interpreters embodied in their active grasp of the speakers' real intentions,adoption of the corresponding strategies and coordinating relationships in between etc.,will exert great influence on improving the outcomes of communication.Based on the interpreting practice in 2015 International Investment Forum,this report explicitly describes the background information,pre-task preparation,on-site interpreting and post-task evaluation of the author.By analyzing the excerpts of the conversation recorded,it reveals the real existence of interpreters' subjectivity on business interpreting and its necessity on improving communication outcomes.The embodiments of interpreters' subjectivity consciousness are explained from the aspects of the strategies they actively adopted in the interpreting process which are classified as discourse modification,active participation,confirmation,adding or asking for more information,communication coordination,and are concluded into three factors listed as visibility consciousness,empowerment consciousness and unconventional concept on neutrality or partisanship.
