A Report On Chinese To English Translation Of Culture-loaded Expressions In In-depth Report From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the rapid development and prosperity of China,the world are now paying much more attention to China."Topics in Focus" is a program about issues concerning people's livelihood and the latest events in politics,economy,social development across China.With functions of media supervision and information openness,it has become one of the most popular programs in China.The translation of such program can help foreign audiences get a better understanding about China.However,during the translating process,those culture-loaded words are usually of high information density and it is hard to find the equivalent expressions in the target language,which poses a great challenge for the translator.The skopos theory focuses on the purpose of the translation,and allows that one source material can be translated with different methods to achieve different aims.In this regard,this theory can serve as the guidance of the translation of in-depth report to achieve the goal of delivering information to the receptors efficiently.Based on a detailed case study,the author intends to summarize translation strategies according to different types of culture-loaded expressions,such as literal translation,free translation,literal translation with explanation,borrowing,etc.By specific case studies,the author concludes that the principles of skopos theory can effectively guide the translation of culture-loaded expression.In addition,the exploration for the translation of culture-loaded expression will further enrich the application of skopos theory in practice.
