A Study On The Translation Of Chinese 2015 Report On The Work Of Government Under Manipulation Theory

Nowadays,China develops rapidly and engages in more and more international affairs,which makes China one of the major countries in the world.Meanwhile,people from all over the world become interested in China and Chinese culture.The annual Chinese Report on the work of Government(RWG)attracts the attention of people from all walks of life home and abroad.As the Chinese RWG supplies authoritative and scientific information about every aspect of China and Chinese development,it enjoys a high status both home and abroad,in consequence,the translation of the Chinese RWG is of great significance.It is without question that the Chinese Central Government attaches great importance to the annual RWG and its translation.The research object of this thesis is the Chinese 2015 RWG and its official English translation.It is well-known that the Chinese 2015 RWG is delivered by the Chinese Premier Minister Li Keqiang at the most important Chinese political conference,this proves that the Chinese RWG is of important status.What's more,the Chinese national RWG is considered by the Chinese central government and local governments as guidance,the government officials should follow the ideology of the RWG in the daily routine.Obviously,the translation of the Chinese RWG is an important way for the foreigners to gain reliable information about China.In a word,both the translation of the Chinese RWG and its original text receive worldwide attention.In recent years,although the study on the translation of the Chinese RWG has got some achievement,it still lacks theoretical support.The spring up of the manipulation theory in the 1970 s added new life to the traditional translation studies.It focuses on many different factors which influence translation,and brings the cultural factors into translation studies to investigate the theory and practice of translation in a wider background.This thesis analyzes the official English translation of the Chinese 2015 RWG from the perspective of the manipulation theory.On the one hand,it proves that the manipulation theory is suitable to be applied to the C-E translation of the Chinese RWG and provides reliable theoretical basis for the C-E translation of the Chinese RWG.On the other hand,it broadens the application range of the manipulation theory and offers a new perspective for the study of the translation of the Chinese RWG.First of all,the author introduces the related information about the Chinese RWG briefly,and at the same time,reviews the related researches done by some professionals and scholars as well as their suggestion for Chinese RWG translation.Secondly,the author reviews the spring up and development of the manipulation theory,meanwhile,introduces the three major control factors of the manipulation theory,which is the theoretical basis of this thesis.It proves that the manipulation theory is suitable to be applied to the translation of the Chinese RWG through the study on the application and development of the manipulation theory in the Chinese translation circle.Last but not least,the author studies the official English version of the Chinese 2015 RWG under the guidance of the manipulation theory,through which the author finds that: First,as the initiator and patron of the Chinese RWG,the Chinese central government not only provides necessary political,economic,human and material support but also manipulates the writing and translation of the RWG.Second,poetics focuses on the understanding and acceptance of the target readers,so as to realize cultural infiltration through different translation strategies.Third,the manipulation of ideology comes from the original text as well as the target text,while translating,the translator has to give consideration to both.It is worth noting that the three major control factors of manipulation theory is not isolated but closely related.To some degree,the patron manipulates the translator through ideology,and the translator is also influenced by his or her own ideology and poetics.As a result,the translator manipulates translation through poetics under the guidance of patron and ideology.
