This paper is a report on the translation project of Macao and the British,1637–1842 Prelude to Hong Kong.This book offered enormous details with regard to the historical events vividly happened in the Asia-Pacific area between the 1600 s and the 1800 s.Its narrative focus was mainly on Macao and Hong Kong that were respectively occupied by Portugal and the U.K.The translation of this book that,as a historical document,has covered many events and countless sparkling characters,requires large amount of dedication and meticulous efforts for the result must not deviate from the fait accompli.Long and complicate sentences and historical names rank among the most arduous parts to deal with,which highlighted the necessity of employing various translation strategies and methods under the guidance of translation theories.Hence,the book categorized as a “informative text” according to Reiss' text typology theory,the translation strives to restore all possible details,using multiple syntactic and semantic strategies,with the help of other theories including the Dynamic Equivalence theory of Nida,and the text typology of Reiss.This translation report is divided into four chapters,including task description,process description,case study and the conclusion.All the translation material is attached in the appendix.
