The source textual materials are selected from Chapter 22 to Chapter 33 of What is pvalue anyway-34 Stories to Help You Actually Understand Statistics by Andrew Vickers,in which 34 stories regarding the statistics are presented to help readers to comprehend the basic principles of statistics.The selected chapters in this thesis mainly introduce some common standard errors.There are many cases of attributive clauses with the relatively complex structure in these chapters.Therefore,the translation of attributive clauses is the importance and difficulty during the translation.This thesis first introduces the background and significance of this study,and reviews the predecessors' translation studies on the attributive clause.Then according to the relationship between the attributive clauses and the antecedents,the attributive clauses of the source language are classified into restrictive attributive clauses and non-restrictive attributive clauses.Next,this thesis analyzes the differences between the attributive clauses in English and Chinese from two aspects of the position and the semantic functions.At the last,this thesis emphasizes the translation strategies of restrictive attributive clauses and non-restrictive attributive clauses in detail.The translation strategies for the attributive clauses contained in the source textual material are as follows: for the restrictive attributive clauses,which are closely related to the antecedent,the strategies of fronting and blending can be adopted to make the translation concise and accurate and easy to be accepted by Chinese audiences;for the non-restrictive attributive clauses,in which the clauses are only to describe or explain the antecedent,the strategies of postponement and adverbial translation can be used.In this way,the translation can be very smooth and meet the reading habits of Chinese audiences well.
